The focus on this album is on the combination of horn, violin and piano: three highly dissimilar instruments. In Northern Waters the horn trio is extended by yet another inhomogeneous component – a vocalist. If contrasts are present in instrumentation, they are present in esthetics too, like having prominent composers accompanied with an amateur. Another interesting aspect is that all the works are program music. The program just varies and is used in very different ways. For more observations I would quote Kujala: "Let the music guide you." Let it reveal it's Northern qualities and inner attractions.
