The focus of the book is on high-quality examples that can be used as templates, and on innovative, groundbreaking concepts. The systematic arrangement of all projects makes it possible for readers to compare and assess the layouts in order to derive inspiration from the ideas and strategies for their own work.

The introductory essays on theory and history have been re-written or updated, and provide a clearly structured overview of residential construction and its development over the last 70 years.
