Pianist Eveliina Sumelius-Lindblom’s second solo album “Silent Revolution - French modernism and zone of colors” features works by Olivier Messiaen and Erkki Melartin, who practiced new types of harmonies and timbres, as well as a tribute composition to Messiaen by his student Tristan Murail. The name of the album refers to piano music composed in the 20th century which is rarely performed and recorded, and which looks towards the independent, timeless and sustainable musical innovations of the modernist trend.
Professor Eero Tarasti reviews the album in the Amfion magazine, saying that Sumelius-Lindblom “is an excellent interpreter, the chords shimmer and sparkle in the different registers of the piano in her hands.” (Amfion, E. Tarasti 17.2.2023). Journalist Kare Eskola writes in the Finnish broadcasting company YLE’s review of new albums, “The power of modernism meets the colors of impressionism” that Melartin’s austere and virtuosic work Fantasia Apocaliptica gets “a weighty interpretation that glows like a lava flow.” (Yle, 1.4.2023).
Pianist Eveliina Sumelius-Lindblom works extensively in the Finnish music scene as an artist, researcher and pedagogue as well as in various expert positions. In her doctoral degree, Sumelius-Lindblom specialized on aesthetic peculiarities of the 1920’s French Modernism and the research-based methodological thinking of the music performer.
