For sophomore/senior-level courses in Intermediate Spanish, Spanish Conversation, and Spanish Conversation and Composition.
Nuevas voces hispanas: contextos literarios para el debate y la composición offers a fresh alternative for your intermediate, intermediate-advanced, composition or conversation courses. Nuevas voces gives voice to writers from Latin America and Spain who are currently outside the canon. Some have gained international recognition, while some are less well-known. This collection of compelling short stories all deal with personal relations in some manner. This unifying, underlying theme in the stories facilitates conversation and class discussion.
The stories are framed with extensive pedagogical support. Each story begins with a brief author biography, a photograph of the author, and a personal interview to give the student a context for the story. Other aids to comprehension and cultural understanding include: vocabulary-building exercises, a reading guide, writing activities, themes for debate, and group discussion topics. Additionally, a literary analysis section is designed to help bridge the gap between language and literature courses.
Each story has also been embellished with a drawing created for each story. The artwork not only enlivens the text, but also serves to provoke the student's imagination. Questions linked to the drawing are offered as possible topics of class discussion.
