As part of a Joint Project of Bilateral Scientific Cooperation between the Katholieke Universiteit Leuven (Belgium) and University of Stellenbosch (South Africa), the Centre for Septuagint Studies and Textual Criticism (Faculty of Theology, K.U.Leuven) organised a Specialists' Symposium on the Septuagint Translation. This scholarly meeting took place from 4 to 6 December 2006 at the Leuven Faculty of Theology, Research Unit Biblical Studies.
The symposium's aim was to survey contemporary research within the realm of the translations of the Septuagint. Therefore, the most important Septuagint translation projects were confronted with each other, from the perspective of their objective and methodology as well as with regard to their concrete application in particular cases or examples. The meeting was exclusively intended for specialists in the field.
The present book contains the proceedings of this symposium. It offers the full text of the contributions by J. Cook, R. Sollamo, H. Ausloos & B. Lemmelijn, G. Dorival, K. Hauspie, C. Dogniez, M. Karrer, W. Kraus, E. Bons, H.-J. Fabry, A. Pietersma, D. Büchner, C. Boyd-Taylor, H. Van Rooy, J. Naudé, A. Piquer, P. Torijano & Julio Trebolle Barrera and N. Fernández Marcos. In this way, it reflects the views of leading voices in contemporary research on the Septuagint's translation, and thus confronts different methodological perspectives on a most intriguing research topic.
