Alexander Dubovik is a key figure of 1960s Ukrainian art, known for visionary canvases. Dubovik had the courage to remain true to his art and to himself when every nonconformist act of self-expression was challenged by the authorities. How exactly did his art change? Dubovik gradually began to move away from depicting the world in realistic images and developed an individual figurative-plastic language, which combines his artistic search, views of cubism, abstraction, iconography, and the avant-garde. He created deep psychological portraits and self-portraits. Duboviks paintings reflect the ideas of Plato, Emanuel Kant, Edmund Husserl and Martin Heidegger. Alexander Dubovik's works have gained worldwide renown. They are stored in many private collections, funds of Ukrainian and world museums: the German Kunsthalle Würth Museum, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tehran, the Ukrainian Museum of Avant-garde Art in Chicago (USA), Zimmerly Art Museum and others. Alexander Dubovik. The Signs is a gift book released in a limited edition. The book demonstrates not only a retrospective of Dubovyk's life and works but also traces the peculiarities of his creative approach. That is why it will be of interest to painters, culture experts, historians and simply anyone interested in art.
