Anatomy & Physiology for English Language Learners is an introduction to basic anatomy and physiology. It presents science content and language skills necessary for success in academic science courses such as anatomy and physiology and human biology.
The textbook is designed for students at the high-intermediate level of English. Its goal is to prepare English language learners for success in future nursing an allied health, prerequisite courses. It can also be used by students who already hold nursing or allied health degrees in their countries and are preparing to take certification examinations in the United States.
The textbook consists of twelve chapters, each focusing on a particular organ system. Every chapter contains:
- A brief introduction to the topic
- Anatomy and physiology content with level-appropriate readings
- Comprehension checks
- Building language and study skills sections
- Focus on culture section
- Work-type chapter review
At the end of the book, there are four achievement tests designed for in-class or self-testing; a pronunciation guide with phonetic symbols used in the text; conversion charts for metric and English systems, a word parts section that offers explanation of affixes that form scientific vocabulary; an answer key for comprehension checks and achievement tests; and a subject index.
