Beginner Companion to Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) from Xqinenglish.com Jim PngSivumäärä: 557 sivuaAsu: Pehmeäkantinen kirjaJulkaisuvuosi: 2022 (lisätietoa)Kieli: Englanti Over the years, the author has tried his best to share his love of Xiangqi (aka Chinese Chess) with the non-Chinese population of the world. To do so, he learned to build websites with limited computing skills, translated the main terms in Xiangqi into English, learned the ropes of making videos, and used Facebook to promote his cause.
All these efforts were born from his father passing the game to him. The author’s children are learning the game too at their own pace, and he hopes that Xiangqi will pass on from generation to generation forever.
This book represents all the information that the author wished he had when he first learned Xiangqi many years ago. It also represents a reflection of the journey the author has traveled all this time.
While some might consider Xiangqi to be just another game where pieces are moved from one place to another, Xiangqi is so much more. While the technical aspects are perhaps why most non-Chinese take to the game, it would be a horrible mistake to ignore the culture and history of Xiangqi. That is why, in this book, other than the usual technical introductions, the author has placed much emphasis on culture and history. And instead of examples after examples, the author has tried to incorporate as much basic theory as possible. After all, Xiangqi is a game that teaches you to think, not just memorize!
This book represents everything the author wished he had when he first started on his Xiangqi journey and hopes that more people will benefit from it and learn to love Xiangqi in their own way.
This book is dedicated to my father, Mr. Wilson Png Ewe Guan, who taught me the essentials of playing Xiangqi about four decades ago. He is battling terminal cancer, and it is with a heavy heart that the author is writing this book.
