The publication contains a selection of folk songs recorded between 1961 and 1982, which were in active circulation in the former Võrumaa in the early decades of the 20th century. The discs contain a total of 86 songs from 27 artists. Among them are both local and foreign songs. Regal songs were still mainly preserved as family traditions, while their newer, transitional versions became round dance songs. Songs of transitional form, which partly had the characteristics of older, partly newer folk songs, were also found among local men's songs.
One of the latter's favorite topics was walking. The newer, mainly end-rhyming social song was still quite lively in the circle of relatives and friends in the second half of the 20th century. Newer repertoire was also obtained from printed materials. In oral circulation, the texts varied, became anonymous and became associated with local melodies. Newer, harmonic polyphony and singing accompanied by instruments, especially the kandle, was widespread.
