This is the first study of the life and works of Garcia Malo, one of the leading literary figures of the end of the eighteenth century. The Voz de la naturalezawas first published in 1787, and was constantly reprinted. Thepresent edition consists of seven of the original twelve prose works which constitute the publication. Garcia Malo's purpose is to deepen an understanding of human passions, which, together with his significant and unusual use oflanguage, make his work an important signpost for the understanding of the continuity of literary production between the end of the eighteenth century and the beginning of the nineteenth. The introduction deals with the life of the author, his dramatic and polemic works, his poetry, translations, and prose publications.
