Criminal Law and Procedure, fifth edition, provides comprehensive coverage of both criminal law and criminal procedure. The book is designed to be used in combined criminal law and criminal procedure classes or may be split for use by programs that divide the two subjects. The first half of the book examines the elements of crimes, parties to crimes, and basic legal (constitutional and statutory) and factual defenses. The second half discusses the parties in the criminal justice system, basic constitutional framework, and the law of searches, seizures, arrests, interrogations, other law enforcement practices, and the process of criminal cases, from first appearance to appeal. The impacts of contemporary problems, such as terrorism on criminal procedure are also included in the discussion. Case excerpts are included to stimulate student discussion. The pedagogy of the book is designed to develop problem solving and analytical skills.
