Venezuelan sopranista Samuel presents his debut album, showcasing his unique, delicate voice. Beautiful Mozart & Gluck aria favourites written for castrati of the 18th century, many heard here recorded by a man for the first time. Along with world premieres and rarities by Cimarosa and Bologne, Chevalier de St-Georges. Recorded with leading period instrument specialists Andrea Marcon and La Cetra Barockorchester Basel. Samuel is a member of the LGBTQ+ community, and is on a mission to show that in the classical world, everyone is welcome.
“I am from the 21st century and the no-gender generation. If I want to sing a role and I am able to, then I sing it. It’s not because it’s a man or a woman or a castrato. If one day I’m wearing a dress on stage, I want you to love me like that. If another day, I’m in jeans and sneakers, I want you to love me like that as well.” Samuel
