Reading comprehension is one of the essential key qualifications for school learning and for participating in social life. Deficits in this area can lead to long-lasting and interdisciplinary learning problems. "We become reading detectives" is a teaching concept for the systematic promotion of reading skills. The material was created based on the tried-and-tested teaching program "We become text detectives". Reading detectives learn how to deal with difficult and new texts independently, using strategies (clarifying unknown terms / summarizing), just as a real detective can approach his cases in a planned manner. With simpler texts, a smaller number of reading strategies to be taught and a clearly structured working scheme, "We will be reading detectives" represents an alternative for younger and / or students who need special support. It allows an introduction to strategy-oriented reading lessons in primary school and is particularly suitable for use in secondary schools (5th and 6th grades) and schools with learning disabilities (6th to 8th grades). During testing in school practice, clear and sustainable improvements in reading comprehension and reading interest were found.
