Casting a shadow over the idyllic Fenlands landscape, black metal quintet THE INFERNAL SEA are the second signing in over a decade to the recently relaunched CACOPHONOUS RECORDS. Rooting their sound in traditional Black Metal, forthcoming sophomore album THE GREAT MORTALITY focuses on the dark and macabre history of the Black Death which swept across the UK & Europe from 1348, focusing on the sadistic nature of mankind in times of fear and despair. Treading into dystopian territory, this is THE INFERNAL SEA at their most brutal and cadaverous.
Formed in 2010, The Fens in the UK, THE INFERNAL SEA crafted their sound and mobilized their following before releasing debut album Call Of The Augur in 2011; 2012 followed with The Crypt Sessions EP with both releases catalysing overwhelming response, selling out online completely. THE INFERNAL SEA’s intense shows have carved them into an unrelenting and unique live force to be reckoned with. Wielding 14th Century plague masks on stage, constricted by an eerie snake-like green fog, their atmospheric show has landed them an impressive set of live achievements – including support to the likes of Anaal Nakrath, Napalm Death, 1349 and Vreid, alongside the headline slot at the ‘New Blood’ stage for 2013’s Bloodstock Open Air Festival. Kicking off 2016 by hitting the road in the UK and Europe with London’s resident Death Metallers ABHORRENT DECIMATION in January, THE INFERNAL SEA are pencilling in further UK dates for next year.
