"The Dvořák Album" shows Antonín Dvořák’s chamber music in its diversity and musical richness. purpose, Cellist and artistic director of the Moritzburg Festival Jan Vogler has selected chamber music works from various creative periods of Dvořák and recorded them together with excellent young musicians: American violinist Chad Hoopes, Kevin Zhu, violist Matthew Lipman, pianists Tiffany Poon and Juho Pohjonen. The album features the expressive waltz of the Scherzo from Dvořák's Terzetto in C major, Op. 74 with its original unusual line-up on this recording again changed to piano, cello and violin. The famous Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor op. 90 "Dumky" and the seventh piece of his piano circle Humoresques Op. 101 are among the works presented too. As well as the rarely performed Piano Quartet No. 2 in Eb major, Op. 87 which is characterized by its unusual, almost ethereal sound images in which the piano merges perfectly with the strings and enables comparisons to his mentor and composer Dvořák deeply admired, namely Johannes Brahms. Adapted by Jan Vogler for cello is Dvorak's „Songs my mother taught me” from Gypsy Songs Op. 55 which was specially written for Bohemian tenor Gustav Walter and centers its narrative around songs that have been passed down by mothers to their children over generations.
