Charles Dudley Warner (1829-1900) was an American journalist and writer. He studied at the Oneida Conference Seminary at Cazenovia, and entered Hamilton College, where he was graduated in 1851. Just before the breaking out of the Civil War he became assistant editor of the Evening Post at Hartford, Connecticut. This journal was, in 1867, united with the Hartford Courant, of which he became editor and part proprietor. Still retaining this position, he became, in 1884, editorially connected with Harper's Magazine. He was also the author of a number of books, including Being a Boy and Studies of Irving. In 1873 he wrote The Gilded Age, in conjunction with Mark Twain. Annie Adams Fields was an American poetess and essayist, and the wife of James T. Fields. She is the author of a number of books, including Biography of James T. Fields (1884), How to Help the Poor (1885), Authors and Their Friends (1896), and Life and Letters of Harriet Beecher Stowe (1897).
