In the 19th century a large quantity of music for plucked string instruments, such as the guitar, banjo, mandolin and harp was published in America. Popular were dances such as the Polka, Waltz, Mazurka, Gavotte, Schottische, March and Galop. Caroline V. Hayden was an important representative of this musical movement.
